Hearing “snake” is enough to shiver down anyone’s spine. In India alone, there are over 300 species of venomous snakes, and their bite can often be fatal, potentially leading to death within a few hours. However, there is one particular snake in India that, while venomous, is not harmful to humans.
This snake is the rat snake. Reports suggest that although it can appear anywhere, it poses no threat to humans. The rat snake, known as the enemy of rats, belongs to the species of red snakes. Found in Rajasthan, it is called the “yellow snake” in the local language. Further reports describe it as a friend of farmers.
Local spoke with a snake catcher, Ravi Meena, who shared more exciting details about the rat snake. According to him, the snake is known by many names. Some call it “ghoda pachad,” while others call it “Dhaman.” Ravi Meena explained, “In rural areas, people call it a yellow snake in the local language. It is also called a friend of farmers because the rat snake feeds on rats.”
